The church needs to grow partnerships with government

Deputy President William Ruto has urged the church to grow partnerships with government for maximum development to be realised.

Speaking during a meeting with the leadership of the Pentecostal Assemblies of God church at Karen, the DP reiterated the importance of the church in socio-economic transformation.

“The church is an important agent for social and economic transformation.

“To further this cause, it needs to grow partnerships with the Government in key socio-economic areas such as health, education and livelihood support for maximum development impact to be realized,” said the DP.

Some politicians have been slammed for using the church to push their political agenda leading the Catholic Church to take a firm stand.

The Catholic Diocese of Murang'a has since cancelled all events where politicians have been invited.

This is after a service at a Catholic church in the area was disrupted after two MPs clashed over protocol during a fundraiser.

Bishop James Wainaina ordered the clergy in Murang'a and Kirinyaga counties to suspend such activities.

This move was lauded by DPP Noordin Haji and DCI boss George Kinoti who thanked the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops for taking a resolute stand and offering moral leadership in the country’s fight against corruption.

“Corruption must be fought using not only Constitutional instruments but also through our social and cultural institutions.

“Religion is a great force in human existence…we as Kenyans are striving to move from systemic corruption towards a society in which justice, integrity and fairness rule the day,” read a letter signed by both Haji and Kinoti.
