SUMMARY

On Wednesday, Mariga moved to the IEBC Disputes Resolution Tribunal to contest the move to bar him asking them to nullify Muli’s decision.

Mariga, though the law firm of Majimbo AG & Co advocates, filed the complaint at IEBC offices insisting that he is a registered voter.

Ida Odinga has advised former Harambee Stars captain McDonald Mariga to stick to football.

Speaking during the opening of an educational block at Wandiege Primary School in Kisumu East Sub-County, Ida stated that Mariga is known for his football prowess and joining politics was a bad idea.

"Have you heard of the name Dennis Oliech? What has he excelled in? Football isn't it?

“Think of Mariga, I cannot use that as a good example because when he changed the profession you see how he failed.

"If he would have stuck to football he would do much much better," she said.

Earlier this week, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) rejected Mariga’s nomination for the Kibra by-election on grounds that his details are not in the voters’ register.

IEBC Returning Officer Beatrice Muli told Mariga to seek redress with the commission's disputes resolution board within seven days.

“I just want to say that we have invalidated Mariga's nominations," said Muli.

She added that other documents presented to them were correct, except the name missing from their register.

However, the former Inter Milan midfielder is not letting up the fight to vie in the November 7 Kibra by-election and has appealed against the electoral commission’s decision to disqualify him.

On Wednesday, Mariga moved to the IEBC Disputes Resolution Tribunal to contest the move to bar him asking them to nullify Muli’s decision.

Mariga, through Majimbo AG & Co advocates, filed the complaint at IEBC offices insisting that he is a registered voter.

In the affidavits, the footballer says he was enlisted as a voter on August 26, 2019, at Kariokor Social Hall polling station in Starehe Constituency and thus it was improper for the commission to declare him ineligible.
