Ebru TV denies firing Kartelo because of ‘ghetto-ness’

Ebru TV has come out to clear the air following a fall out between the station, comedian Chipukeezy and Kartelo.

Through a statement seen by Ureport, the TV station denied terminating their agreement with Kartelo on grounds of ‘ghetto-ness’, saying he failed to execute campaigns to their satisfaction.

Further, Ebru explained that Kartelo was not their employee and the only agreement they had was on a census campaign.

"As part of the census campaign, we asked our in-house influencers to push the census campaign for us on social media. Seeing that Kartelo had built an audience, we contracted him to do at a fee which he agreed to and signed a contract to which he was paid.

"On 20th of August, Kartelo shot videos which were done at Ebru. We gave him the videos to post on his social media pages, this was not done to satisfaction. Hence the email that was sent on Thursday 22nd of August 2019 to Chipukeezy," read the statement in part.

“Ebru did not terminate Kartelo for ‘ghetto-ness’…we no longer wanted to work with him which is our right as the management of Ebru.”

Earlier this week, Chipukeezy stated that he was asked to end his collaboration with Kartelo because the show had become ‘ghetto’.

He added that he had been asked to change the format and ‘maybe interview more politicians and corporate executives.

“For as much as I respect their request or rather decision, I would like to categorically state that I feel my calling and mission could just be the exact opposite.

“My passion, desire and vision is to lift the youth of this country… I am not willing or planning under any circumstances to stop supporting Kartelo and any other young person in this industry and since Ebru seems to have made up their minds on Terminating Kartelo appearance on my show I am sadly left with no option but to terminate my contract as well [sic],” said Chipukeezy.
