Family cries for justice following killing of their daughter

The family of musician Joan Cherono is demanding justice after her death.

Ms Cherono, who was popularly known as Sweet Lady died after she was hit on the head with a blunt object.

She had quarrelled with her boyfriend in the house they had been living in Kamukunji estate in Bomet town.

Neighbours said the two had long-standing differences and always fought.

The boyfriend, a prison warder at Bomet GK prison is being held at Bomet Police Station.

Bomet Central sub-county police commander Musa Omari said an investigation into the incident has been launched.

Blow to family

Mr Omari said the victim was rushed to Longisa County hospital but “she was pronounced dead on arrival”.

He said Cherono was bleeding from the ears. Her father Joseph Mosonik wants investigations fast-tracked.

Mr Mosonik said the musician was one of the family’s breadwinners and her death was a blow to the family.

“It’s a blow even to her siblings who are still in school,” he said, and added that as a family, they were not aware of their late daughter’s relationship with the suspect.

“If they were cohabiting with my daughter we were not aware as a family and that does not justify the murder,” he said and demanded stern action against the suspect.

He said they were shocked by the news of her death.

“We are yet to come to terms with the incident and the blood-stained clothes is a clear indication that she met her death painfully,” Mosonik said.

Kalenjin musicians condoled the family and called for a speedy investigations into the matter.

Musicians Faith Chepkirui Marende and Cheche condemned the killing.
