Miritini police boss Stephen Munene has said two people were arrested on Tuesday for vandalising the Standard Gauge Railway at the Miritini terminus.

Munene said the suspects, aged 19 and 21 years, were nabbed with 25 metal bars, which they confessed they would sell later to a scrap metal dealer in Mariakani.

The officer said the young men were using special tools to cut key railroad infrastructure in Mombasa and Kwale counties. Police also seized a motorcycle that was being used to ferry the materials.

Officers revealed that approximately six kilometers had been vandalised and metal carted away. Munene said they would go after everybody who destroyed the railway.
