Drug shortage hits Migori County Hospital

Patients at Migori County level four hospital wait to see the Doctor on June 5, 2019, patients complains over the shortage of the drugs at the facility they are asking the County Government to intervene.

Migori County Level 4 Referral Hospital has been hit by an acute shortage of drugs.

Patients seeking treatment at the facility yesterday complained that they were being asked to buy prescribed drugs from private pharmacists.

The shortage comes barely two months after Governor Zachary Okoth flagged off a consignment of drugs worth Sh18 million that was distributed to public health facilities in the county.

Yesterday, patients spoke of their frustrations at the hospital.

“I was diagnosed with malaria but I have been told that the drugs are out of stock. I am surprised that a big hospital like this one lacks malaria drugs," said Joice Awino.

Migori County Chief Officer Health, Dalmas Oyugi did not respond to text messages sent to him on the matter.

However, County Director of Communication Nicholas Anyuor said that the county had finalised procurement for drugs.
