Fans react to Herrera's exit from United

Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera is set to leave Manchester United at the end of the season after five years at the club.

Through a video, Herrera thanked fans for their incredible support over the years and confessed his love for the club.

"Playing for the greatest club in England has been a true honour. Every time I represented this club, in every game, in wins and losses, even when I couldn't help from the grass, I understood what this clubs means,” he said.

The news was, however, not well received by Man Utd supporters around the world who faulted the club’s management for letting a dedicated player leave.

United cannot finish in the top four and that means they will be in the Europa League next season which is a failure by the club’s standards.

Fans were quick to express their disappointment online and could not fathom how central defence pair Phil Jones and Chris Smalling were handed long term contracts but Herrera wasn’t.

Ryan: Can’t believe that Ander Herrera is leaving this football club before Phil Jones or Ashley Young. Joke.

Haybee: Not an English, Not from Manchester United but played for the club passionately. Love Ander Herrera thanks for the memories.

Jomo Leakey: Ed needs to explain, Ander Herrera leaves at his prime, the only player who cared & played for the badge, the passion in him was incomparable, unacceptable to extend young's a 33 yr old contract, Jones and others & leave this talent.

Dillan: I am gutted that Ander Herrera is leaving Manchester United. He has and always will be one of my favourite players. He gave his everything for the badge every time he stepped out on the pitch. I wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

Aidan Walsh: Honestly can’t get over the fact that Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have outlasted Ander Herrera at Manchester United. And he signed years after them.

The Man Utd way: A club severely lacking any leaders has just let arguably our biggest leader go on a free. Just a few months ago he seemed nailed on to be our next captain, but the board have once again failed to deal with things properly. Herrera will be a big loss to that squad.
