Ozil gifts Kenyan herdsboy with Arsenal merchandise

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has touched the hearts of many after sending two jerseys, a pair of boots and Arsenal merchandise to a Kenyan herdsboy.

This after sports journalist Eric Njiru took a photo of 9-year-old Lawrence Masira in December 2018 while he was herding cows donning an Arsenal shirt written ‘Ozil 10’.

Njiru then tweeted a photo of the boy and tagged the German playmaker. After a few days, Ozil’s communication team got in touch with the journalist, asking for Masira’s physical address.

Due to logistical issues, the package was delayed for almost two months but last week Masira’s dream came true as Ozil fulfilled his promise and sent him two autographed jerseys and a pair of boots.

Masira could not hide his joy as he unwrapped his gift, saying it was a dream come true.

“I have never had football boots…I am so excited to receive this package,” he said.

Initially, his jersey was written with a marker pen but he now has an original one with the star’s signature.

On Monday evening Ozil took to Twitter to express his happiness at making the boy’s dream come true and he was lauded by fans around the world for his kind gesture.

“The picture of a Kenyan boy with a self-made shirt on Twitter touched me so much.

“And look at Lawrence now – it's so heartwarming to see him and his brothers happy,” he wrote.
