Aprot and Kimitei to light up Kapsokwony race

The third leg of the Athletics Kenya (AK) cross country season heads to the slopes of Mt. Elgon, Kapsokwony tomorrow.

The meet began with the Machakos leg, before moving to Ol Kalau.

The meeting will see, Alice Aprot, the 2016 Africa cross country champion seeking redemption after losing in the Ol Kalou race to World 5,000m champion Hellen Obiri.

Other big names set to grace the race include Leonard Komon, 2016 Africa 10,000m champion Wilfred Kimitei, Joash Kiplimo and Boaz Kiprugut.

After Kapsokwony, the fourth leg will be held in Kisii, which will be followed by institutional and inter-regional cross country.

The 2016 Africa cross country senior bronze medallist Beatrice Mutai and Kenyan-born Bahraini John Koech were winners in last year's meeting.

Mutai returned 35:15.16 ahead of Olympic champion and Bahraini Ruth Jebet who crossed in 35:21.24 while Bomet-based Eva Cherono was third in 35:31.64.
