Mysterious eyewitness dodges arrest for 28 years

Denis Muigai Ngengi who has trended since appearing at the accident scene of the late Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru is a wanted man.

This is according to a report sent by Registrar of Criminal Records P Ndunda to the Director of Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro.

The report shows that results from forensic analysis of the man’s fingerprints indicate he has similar charges against him in the past.

Denis who caught the attention of Kenyans by witnessing two major incidents has been charged with stealing, impersonation, giving false information, obtaining money under false pretense and assault.

He spoke to the media at the scene of the October 21 Nakuru air crash where he claimed to be a state police and at the November 7 accident where he claimed to have witnessed the Governor's car crash.

Kenyans went on social media questioning how one person could possibly be on site of two major incidents.

The police then began investigating him and discovered he had charged with breaking the law in different parts of the country under different aliases.

He has been charged in Narumoru, Nkubu, Mweiga, Kiganjo, Rumuruti, Meru and Baricho for different crimes.

Denis, who had used the names Alex Musyoka, Charles Karanja, Francis Karanja Mwaniki, Charles Karanja Mwangi (Cameroon), Francis Maina Theuri, Martin Mutangilu Wambua (Kathoka), Martin Githaiga Gichuhi and Anthony Waweru Gakuya was arrested in Ruiru on November 10.

The report issued stated that all the charges in his previous crimes did not indicate the result of the trials.

He is currently being held at Special Crime Investigations Unit.
