Mazingira challenge summit article

Kenya Forests Working Group (KFWG) in partnership with the universities held a Mazingira Challenge Summit on 18th November 2016.This took a twist from the normal annual mazingira challenge as a review to take a look at successes, shortfalls and then finally way forward . This was to improve the challenge for enhanced environmental awareness among the youth in the coming years.

There was a reflection on the challenge as KFWG took the participants through the objectives of the event and the background/history of the challenge. The participants took an active role by putting in their view by stating their desired adjustments especially on; quiz challenge, essays, public speaking, poetry, artwork and innovations.

The analysis of the report from the summit would support the improvement of the entire challenge by prioritising and implementing the recommendations. This is intended to inform decision making and promote ways to achieve sustainable environmental management and conservation.

This was followed by an afternoon session on public speaking competition among the students under the theme “climate change” as a way of creating awareness among the youths. This tested on their knowledge of the environmental current event and then awards were given to the best and appreciating the rest.
