State should pay our athletes well

For several decades, Kenya's map has featured globally following sterling performance in athletics either in Olympics or otherwise.

The awards offered by the State to athletes are a good gesture, though an improvement is in order so as to be at par with what happens in other countries. The way to get money is through budgetary allocation in every financial year.

If a performer in athletics is rewarded handsomely, many more would perform even better and "athletes drain" would be minimised. Besides, Kenya should diversify to disciplines such as pole vault and other indoor games.
