Cartels destroying this nation

Kenya is a land of great promise, yet the country is unable to realise its full potential due to cartels that dominate virtually every sector. The raging school fires are attributed to some cartels who are unhappy with the ongoing reforms.

Only one person has successfully defeated cartels, the late John Michuki. He dealt with cartels both in the matatu industry and roads and public works. As for the matatus, the fallen minister enforced traffic rules thereby restoring order as well as safety in the industry. To the road contractors, they had to meet road specifications and timelines.

We are doomed as a nation to assume that it is only in education where cartels are running deadly criminal enterprises. All sectors are held at ransom by cartels determined to have their way.

It is imperative Kenyan citizens and leaders alike end the wheeler-dealer culture. Everyone must be rewarded based on the effort they put in. Hard work should replace working smart. Thus, our value system ought to emphasise on work ethics. Only then can we defeat the criminals who hate the due process.
