Nangina celebrates Golden Jubilee

St. Cecilia Nangina girls’ high school in Funyula constituency, Busia County yesterday celebrated 50 years of existence since its establishment dubbed as ‘Golden Jubilee.’

The event which was attended by parents, students, education stakeholders, church clerics and political leaders also used the event to raise funds in bid to improve school infrastructure where a total of six million was raised.

Among those who attended the fete were Busia County first lady, Judy Ojaamong’, Busia County Deputy Governor Nobert Wangalwa, Busia County speaker Bernard Wamalwa, St. Joseph high school-Kitale principal Peter Obwogo, Bungoma diocese Bishop Norman King’oo Wambua, Nambale ACK diocese Bishop Makina, Funyula constituency lawmaker Dr. PAUL Otuoma, Nangina ward Member of County assembly, (MCA) John Obwogo among others.

The event was flagged off by a mass service that was officiated by Bungoma catholic diocese Bishop Norman King’oo Wambua who in his address urged students to use their time well in school in order to achieve their ambitions. “As students you should make use of your time well so that you excel” he said. He further added that education has each day turned to be instrumental in everyone’s life as such much priority should be given to education.

While speaking at the same event the school principal Phinora Buyengo said that the school was performing well. “Each year our school has been showing tremendous performance in national examinations” she said.

She further added that the school was facing acute shortage of infrastructure something that was undermining its progress. She called upon stakeholders to team up and help the school to be a center of academic excellence.

Her sentiments were echoed by Busia County first lady Judy Ojaamong who urged parents to educate their children and promised to liaise with schools to ensure that students get education, “I’m liaising with schools in my mentorship program to ensure that students get education” she said.

Politics also christened the event after Funyula legislator Dr. Paul Otuoma took to the podium dismissed ultimatums that had been issued against him to tender his resignation letter, terming them illegitimate. “Who is Governor Ojaamong and Godfrey Odanga to issue me ultimatums” he said. He wondered why the Governor had not even organized a single Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) meeting in his backyard.

He added that ODM had three issues that were not being handled well. The first one being that ODM has 17 elected leaders. Second being the ideology and philosophy of ODM that has changed and third Secretary General Post where Ababu namwamba had not been given full mandate to exercise his duty well.

He added that the issues had caused the party to loosen its grip in some parts of Western Kenya.

“This is why we have United Republican Party (URP) and other parties being elected in ODM strongholds” he said.

He further said that Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leader Raila odinga should not engage himself in ODM wrangles at county level. He further said that wrangles within ODM party cannot be solved through rallies but through addressing real issues. He said that the future of ODM party was challenging owing to current rifts within the party.

He urged ODM party not to be looking for alternatives by telling embattled party members to leave but instead solve the impending wrangles.

He said that he is still an ODM member entitled to all privileges and contributions an ordinary member is entitled to.

But Nangina ward MCA John Obwogo told off Dr. Otuoma that he had no option but to remain in ODM.
