My step of faith to join Alliance girls high school

Tamara Onyango was one of the top students in Kisumu County in the just concluded Kenya certificate of primary education exams.

She scored 412 marks out of the possible 500 marks. She studied at Chemelil sugar primary school and was the third student in the class of 2015.

“I am very excited for the grades I managed to score although I had hoped to get 430” she said with a smile.

Asked what high school she hopes to go to, she narrates how she once went for a mentorship program in Alliance boys high school, picked a stone and promised to return it where she found it. She prays that she will be picked to go to Alliance girls High School so that she can return the stone. She aspires to be a doctor in future as she loves helping people.

The 13-year-old girl says that hard work and determination made her perform well. She woke up at 4am every day, prepared herself and was in class by 6pm for her morning preps. She left school at 6pm and read till 10pm when she retired to sleep.

She thanks her class mates, teachers and parents for helping her score good grades.

Apart from studying, Tamara loves swimming and playing basketball.

Tamara encourages students joining class eight to listen to their teachers and parents and to never forget their books during school holidays.

“We are so proud of her. She is a hard worker, disciplined and God fearing. I believe she is going to achieve her dreams,” says her big brother Anthony Makokha.
