The word of God has prescribed and instituted laws and principles that govern financial prosperity. The books of Proverbs and of Ecclesiastes are full of instructions and advice on how to get out of debt, stay out of debt and prosper.
They teach about stability when it comes to finances. They teach how to save, spend and invest and not to waste money. If followed, they ensure financial freedom, fitness and blessings in your life.
Jesus in his ministry spoke more about money than he spoke about heaven and hell. We think about money every day. How you handle your money is considered by God as a spiritual discipline.
God actually watches how you handle your wealth. He told the parable of talents to illustrate the fact that we are managers of everything that God gives to us (Matthew 25:14-30).
The law of possession: All things including money and time are not yours, they all belong to God. Like the master in that parable of talents, he gives each one of us according to our abilities.
The law of allocation: God has loaned you money. To one servant he gave five, the other two and to the other one talent. Although we are different in many ways, God gives to us all of us. Money is to be used and not to be loved. If you love money, you will use people but if you use money, you will love people.
Law of accountability: People are in debt because they work for money. People who are in financial freedom allow their money to work for them. You will be accountable to God on what you did with your talents” (Romans 14:12)
The law of utilisation: God expects you to use what he has loaned to you. Money is a tool to be used. The love of money is the root of all evil. Money can be used for good or for bad.
For example, money can be put into good purpose; to build churches, go for missions, feed widows/orphans. But like Hitler, you can use money to bomb the innocent or build gas chambers; or use it to traffic drugs. Money is a good servant but a poor master!
The money God gives you he expects you to invest not hold or store it. Anytime you misuse or abuse the resources that you have been given, God is not happy and calls you wicked.
The worst thing is that he buried and did nothing. Why do people bury? Because they do not have closure, want to forget that chapter or do not want to see it. You cannot please God in your life by doing nothing. God put you on earth to use your time, money, energy, intelligence and personality for good and his glory. And failure to do that, God calls you wicked.
The law of motivation: You must move against your fears by doing what you fear most. The servant given one talent did nothing because he said, “And I was afraid and went and hid your talent in the ground,” (Matthew 25:25). What keeps us from investing our lives, time, energies or service is FEAR.
The moment you do not overcome fear, your motivation is curtailed.
Examples of two people who failed are Judas, who betrayed Jesus. After he realised what he had done, he ran and hanged himself. And Peter who denied Jesus three times.
He repented many times before God. And Jesus gets to a place where he has to think of who he will entrust the church to. He chose Peter.
“And I also say to you that you are Peter; and on this rock I will build my Church” (Matthew 16:18-19). The biggest failure ended up being what the Church of Jesus Christ is built on.
