Victims point out serial rapist at police ID parade

A boda boda man, who is alleged to have chopped his pillion passenger’s finger before rapping her was recently arraigned at Kibera Law Courts to answer to several rape cases, which had been reported.

Nicholas Otieno Kowiro, according to the charge sheet, forcefully raped his client D.C. while issuing threats on April 12 along Matumbo road in Upper Hill, Nairobi.

Alternatively, Otieno was charged with the offense of indecent act against the victim on the fateful day and place.

Police stated that another rape victim by the name C.M was heading to Ongata Rongai when he boarded the accused person’s motorbike. But the accused person decided to change direction to Matubutu road in Upper Hill and took her to a nearby bush, wiped out a knife from his helmet, and threatened to kill her if she failed to give in to his demands.

The accused is further said to have cut the victim’s forefinger, an indication that he could do worse. He raped her and left. The victim reported the matter at Capitol Hill police station.

Police were then prompted to lay siege at the scene after several complaints were filed that most unsuspecting women were being raped at the marked bushy area.

Five days later, a man in a motorbike carrying a female passenger came by but tried to escape when police tried to stop him. When he was arrested the female passenger stated that she was heading to Embakasi area and she did not know why the accused person had changed the route.

The lady was escorted to the Capitol Hill Police Station to record a statement and other victims called in for a parade where they positively identify the accused.

He was apprehended and arraigned before Senior Resident Magistrate Renee Kitagwa to face rape charges but he denied the accusations. The court directed that the accused be remanded till all the victims are traced to record statements.
