Mr Nice back and says not HIV positive

Mr Nice has re-launched his career in Kenya under Grandpa Records.

In 2004, the Tanzanian musician, whose real name is Lucas Mkenda, invented a new dance style called Takeu, which quickly spread to Kenya and Uganda.

His songs ruled the airwaves making him one of the most celebrated artistes in Africa.

Everyone listened to his Fagilia and Kindalipo songs. He even acknowledged HIV orphans with his Mama song. But later, he joined the list of ‘fallen soldiers.’

Rumour mills churned talk of a South African trip that left him broke. A fellow Tanzanian artiste, Ali Kiba, even recorded Macmuga allegedly to ridicule him.

Mr Nice said most rumours about him were false: “People say that I am violent. I only fought once in public when fellow artiste Dudu Baya caused chaos in my show,” he said.

He added: “He beat me up and I was in no position to fight back the huge guy. I have also heard about my differences with Chameleone. Ironically, he is one of my greatest supporters.”

Responding to rumours that he was very proud during his successful days, Mr Nice said: “Everyone has a right to feel good about themselves. I have never refused to talk to or work with a fellow artiste.”

However, he admitted that he is choosy on the people he works with. “I cannot feature in a vulgar track. My music is educative and entertaining,” he said.

Mr Nice also dismissed rumours that he was HIV positive: “Nimepimwa, niko mzima (I have been tested and I’m fine).”

His official Kenyan tour begins on April 26.
