Budget to benefit school girls

By Rael Jelimo | July 3rd 2015 at 00:00:00 GMT +0300

School-going girls are some of the biggest beneficiaries of the county's 2015-2016 budget estimates.

The Education department has been allocated Sh30 million for purchase of sanitary pads for school girls.

Executive for Education Rosemary Korir said her docket proposed the fund to ensure needy girls get a free supply of sanitary pads to avoid frequent absenteeism during menstruation.

"Each of the 30 wards will have an approximate Sh1 million to purchase the towels to be distributed to needy girls in public secondary and primary schools," she said.

Forty five million shillings will go to bursaries and Sh75 million to build Early Childhood Development classrooms. The total budget was Sh6 billion.
