Bus driver charged with causing deaths of 15 people

The driver of the ill-fated bus that was involved in an accident that claimed the lives of 15 people at Twin-bridge along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway, has been charged with 15 counts of causing death by dangerous driving.

Clement Kiarie, who appeared before Molo Principal Magistrate Daisy Mosse, denied the charges and was released on Sh1 million bond.

He denied the 15 counts of causing death, one count of contravening the use of insurance, one charge of reckless driving and another charge of carrying 41 uninsured passengers.

He caused the accident on January 9, at the Twin Bridge area, on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), having launched an investigation into the full circumstances leading to the crash, identified lane indiscipline and dangerous overtaking as the primary causes.

Kiarie was arrested on Wednesday and detained at the Mau Summit Police Station.
