Kalonzo, Azimio allies pledge to liberate Kenya

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka took the opposition brigade to northern Meru on Sunday, where he declared to have started the journey to remove the Kenya Kwanza government from power.

Kalonzo, who was accompanied by former Cabinet secretaries Peter Munya, Eugene Wamalwa, and Kitui Senator Enock Wambua, said Kenya Kwanza Ruto administration had mismanaged the country.

The former vice-president, an Azimio co-principal, said the economy was on decline, and life had become more difficult for Kenyans due to corruption which has become rampant.

Capture Judiciary

Speaking at Nchui Methodist church in Tigania East, he accused the government of trying to capture the Judiciary and urged MPs to reject the Affordable Housing Bill, saying the government had no business in building houses.

“As Azimio, we shall resist any plan to remove Chief Justice Martha Koome because the Judiciary should be left to discharge its functions independently. They want to capture the Judiciary. You cannot do that. That is the last bastion of our freedom,” said the former vice president.

Kalonzo said Azimio legislators would resist the housing Bill, noting the private sector was building affordable houses at up to Sh2.9 million, and the government should not go into the industry.

“Government cannot involve itself in private business. It cannot work. The problem the government should resolve is the high cost of living, which has become unbearable,” he said.

Mr Munya said the Azimio coalition leaders, led by Raila Odinga, Musyoka and others, were united in their bid to offer good leadership.

Munya alleged President William Ruto had not fulfilled his pledge to lower the cost of living for Kenyans.

“They told us they were getting into government to help the poor, but it is the poor who are hurting now. It is Azimio who will solve the problems,” Munya said.

Presidency in 2027

Munya, the Party of National Unity leader, heaped praise on Kalonzo, who other leaders in Wiper said they will support for presidency in 2027.

Mr Wamalwa said they had started the journey with the mission of forming the government, saying President Ruto had not kept his word.

“They said the moment they put the Bible down (after presidential swearing-in), they will deliver. They have failed to do so,” he said.

“We want new leadership in 2027. We want to take our country back,” he said as he pleaded with the community to support Azimio.
