Focus on food production for economic growth, Nyanza residents urged

Nyanza residents have been challenged to focus on food production to reduce the cost of living in Kenya.

The National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss Shollei, former Ndhiwa MP Agostino Neto and former Kabondo Kasipul MP Silvance Osele have said proper focus on food production will help Kenya end food shortage.

Speaking during a fundraiser at Wachara Catholic Church in Ndhiwa Constituency, Shollei told residents to utilize subsidised fertilisers effectively in growing food crops.

She said proper food production will help end starvation in families which will translate positively to the country's economy.

"Let our people utilize the subsidised fertilisers to grow food crops. This will help us end starvation," Shollei said.

She assured residents that the Government of President William Ruto will serve them without prejudice.

The Deputy Speaker promised to help in mobilizing for the construction of Wachara- Osani- Nyakwere road which is currently impassable due to heavy rains in the area.

"Neto has told me about the dilapidated road. I am going to talk to the CS in charge of roads, Kipchumba Murkomen, to intervene so that this road can be constructed," Shollei said.

Neto urged residents to shun anti-government protests, saying the protests cannot solve the skyrocketing cost of living.

He told residents to support President William Ruto's government.

"Demonstrations have no solutions to the high cost of living. Let us shun demonstrations at all costs," Neto said.

He suggested that Raila should be given the office of the official opposition leader.

Neto, who is the leader of the United Green Movement (UGM) party, urged MPs to fast-track the leader of the Opposition Bill to ensure Raila gets the post.

"I believe if Raila is given the official opposition office, he will keep quiet. I am urging MPs to work on the bill swiftly to ensure Raila gets an office. We want him to keep quiet," Neto said.

He said there is a need for a cordial relationship between the Luo and Kalenjin communities.

"Luos and Kalenjens should not fight because of an individual. We are brothers and sisters," Neto said.

Osele told residents to shun what he termed a misconception that Odinga may take over the presidency from Ruto before the 2027 General election.

"There is no way through which people can cover their heads with sufuria to oust a sitting president," Osele said.

Osele told residents to focus on development to help address unemployment among the youth.

"Let us focus on important issues like unemployment to enable the government to change lives of our young people," Osele added.
