Six people died in a road accident in Amabuko area on the Kisii-Sotik road.

Among the six are two minors, a high school student and another who died alongside his mother.

The 17-year-old student was headed home after he was sent away from school over fee arrears.

The Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital records indicate that 10 patients were received. Two died at the facility, one was discharged, while two were transferred to private hospitals.

Four are still admitted at the facility. The accident occurred a few minutes before 7pm on Saturday, April 1.

Police said the matatu was avoiding hitting a boda boda, and in the process, it was hit by an oncoming trailer.

Keroka OCPD Peter Ndambiri, confirming the accident, said it involved a 14-seater matatu and a trailer. The matatu was heading toward the Sotik area when it collided head-on with the trailer.

"Several other people were injured and were rushed to various hospitals in the area," Ndambiri said.

Ndambiri cautioned drivers operating along the road to observe road safety.

A week ago, Kisii Governor Simba Arati, while accompanying President William Ruto, requested to have construction works along the road hastened.
