President William Ruto gets greenlight to hire CASs

The Labour Court in Nairobi on Thursday, February 16 gave the greenlight to President William Ruto to hire Chief Administrative Secretaries (CASs).

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) had petitioned the court to block the president from appointing CASs, arguing the Public Service Commission (PSC) did not conduct adequate public participation during creation of the posts.

The LSK further argued that the positions were not accommodated in the Constitution, hence a burden to the taxpayers.

The Employment and Labour Relations Court, however, ruled on Thursday that the PSC did everything right while creating the positions.

President Ruto is now free to make the appointments that could see at least 25 people, including his close associates, getting the State jobs.

In the previous administration, led by President Uhuru Kenyatta, there were at least 26 Chief Administrative Secretaries.
