Son, 23, arrested after parents killed in Karura

Detectives have arrested Lawrence Warunge, the firstborn son to the slain businessman Nicholas Warunge and a woman in connection to the gruesome killing at Karura Ka Murimi village, Kiambu County.

The two were arrested on Friday night at Wangige by DCI officers and locked up at Muthaiga Police Station for questioning.

Lawrence, a university student, went missing after the gruesome murder of his parents, brother, a nephew and a mason at their Karura home in Kiambu County on Tuesday night.

According to detectives, the phone of the 23-year-old son was tracked to Naivasha on Wednesday, the day the bodies of the five were found in their compound before going off.

At first it was thought he was abducted by the killers.

Warunge, who worked as a nurse abroad is reported to have been in the country for 10 days during festivities when the killers struck.

According to detectives, the killers made their way into the house through the rear door where they found Warunge’s wife Anne Njoroge and hacked her to death before slitting her throat.

Maxwell Njenga, 13, Warunge’s nephew who celebrated his birthday on December 26 was the second victim of the assailants who was also stabbed several times before his throat was slit.

The killers did not stop; they accosted Warunge’s son Christian Njenga in his bedroom and killed him too.

Warunge who was in his bedroom upstairs escaped through the balcony, but the attackers pursued and stabbed him 34 times before slitting his throat at near the gate.

Also killed in the same style was mason James Kinyanjui who was in the home at the time of the attack.

Homicide detectives led by Martin Nyuguto are using among other leads bare footprints left at the rear door near the spot Warunge was killed to pursue the killers.

Investigators will seek to match the footprints to suspects who will be arrested.

They are yet to recover a knife and a metal bar suspected to have been used to kill the five.

The two suspects are in police custody for questioning.
