Martial Arts: Ambassador meets Kenya team

Kenya’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Mohamed Gello, paid tribute to Tong Il Moore Do team for placing the country on the international map in a sport that is dominated by Asian countries.

Ambassador Gello said this when he received the Kenyan team that won eight medals at the World Unified Martial Arts in Cheongju.

Kenya bagged one gold, two silver and five bronze medals and finished third behind Philippines and Iran during the World Unified Martial Arts Masterships.

“We are proud of you as a country and I would like to personally thank you for the hard work you put in sports to make  Kenya gain respect internationally,” Gello said.

He emphasised the need for sportsmen and women to continue flying the country’s flag. “Apart from bringing honour to your country, you also improve your well-being through earning.

We are always proud to host Kenyan teams whenever they are here,” Ambassador Gello said.

Kenya won gold in Sparring through Edwin Musungu, and silver through Dickson Nyagah and Ibrahim Mchumba.

Bronze medalists were: Newton Sady, Peter Njuguna, Elvis Malipe, Ali Nassor and Jabir Mzee. The Ambassador praised the Kenya local Association for developing the sport. — Robin Toskin in Seoul
