Eldoret Catholic Diocese Bishop Cornelius Korir has said the government should show more commitment in the fight against corruption if it is to regain public trust. Bishop Korir said transparency should be fostered in the ongoing probe into the Youth Fund and the National Youth Service (NYS) scandals.

He said there has recently been a lot of a question asked about the runaway corruption witnessed at various government bodies.

"I want to urge those dealing with the case to ensure there is transparency so as to convince the citizens that the government is ready to fight corruption at all cost. That will help rekindle hope amongst the citizens who have already lost trust in it," he said after Good Friday's celebration at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Eldoret.

Bishop Korir decried the reckless and careless remarks being made by political leaders in the run-up towards the 2017 general elections.

He said politicians across the political divide should preach peace and tolerance amongst their followers.

"There is a very thin line between peace and war. Kenyans have a lot of issues concerning land, employment and ethnic divide and so the reckless remarks being made are threatening to tear the country apart," he said.

In his Easter message the Bishop also urged Christians to pray for their country and also for themselves so as to foster unity.

"Christians are always mindful of others. I request all Christians to pray for each other and be mindful of the less fortunate in the society. If you have more than enough, always reach out to those who do not have. Easter is the time to fast and pray. It is through prayer that this country is will know peace," he said.

Believers also expressed their wish to pray for the country, visit the sick, console with the mourning and help the needy as a way of celebrating the Easter holidays.
