Kenya National Qualifications Authority gets a new Director General

Dr. Wairimu will now serve for 5 years.
The Kenya National Qualifications Authority has appointed Dr. Alice Wairimu Kande to serve as Director General for a period of five years.
In a statement on April 22, the authority chairperson Stanley Kiptis confirmed the appointment.
"Following deliberations and careful consideration, the Council appoints Dr. Alice Wairimu Kande as the Director General/Chief Executive Officer for a five-year term," stated Kiptis.
Kande was appointed after acting in the same position since December 2022, following the exit of Juma Mukhwana.
She outshined a list of 12 shortlisted candidates who were interviewed for the position in February 2024.
Kande previously served as Deputy Director in charge of planning, research, outreach, and policy at the organization and has risen through the ranks.
She holds a doctorate degree in Business Administration (Strategic Management) from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, a Master's in Business Administration, and a Bachelor of Education both from Kenyatta University. 
The chairperson hailed Kande for her contribution in the development of various national policies at the Authority, among them the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policy.
 She also oversaw the coordination of the development of the Kenya Credit Accumulation and Transfer System (KCATS) and Registration and Accreditation Policy Framework. 
 
"We have confidence in her leadership and hope she will steer the organization well, she has delivered for the period she served as acting director General," noted the chairperson congratulating her on the appointment.
