Tusker on Friday opened a three point gap atop the FKF Premier League standings after edging out Kakamega Homeboyz 2-0 in a match played at Ruaraka Grounds.

This is after their closest rivals KCB lost 2-1 to relegation threatened Vihiga United at Mumias Sports Complex.

Mike Madoya and Henry Mejja’s deflected shot gifted Tusker the match need win that saw them stretch their points to 61, three more than KCB.

Rodgers Aloro who assisted the two goals earned the Man of the Match award.

The match started on a high note with Homeboyz missing a clear chance in the third minute after David Okoth shot wide from close range.

Boniface Muchiri would test David Otieno in goal for Homeboyz with a looping header but the latter would track back to clear for a corner.

Tusker took the leader after 38 minutes courtesy an own goal after a free kick from Aloro bounced inside the box before Meja flicked it onto Homeboyz defenders to lead 1-0.

The breweries would double the scorers moments after going ahead with Madoya heading in Aloro’s cross five minutes before the break.

Despite the Friday results, the title race is still early to call with two matches remaining before the end of the season. The bankers and the brewers have been shifting positions at the top.

The remaining two fixtures are also close to call as Tusker have a date with Nzoia Sugar and newbies Bidco United while KCB face top four contender AFC Leopards and league returnees Nairobi City Stars.
