Unai Emery confirms he had no say in Aaron Ramsey's Arsenal exit

Arsenal allowed Aaron Ramsey to leave the club without consulting then manager Unai Emery, the Spaniard has revealed.

Ramsey spent over a decade at the Emirates before leaving for Juventus on a free in the summer.

The midfielder was told a new contract would not be offered despite his considerable influence on the Gunners.

He subsequently penned a deal with the Italian champions which may him among the highest-paid players in Europe.

Emery went on to lose his job in north London last year but admitted Ramsey's exit has nothing to do with him.

“The decisions were made by the club and Ramsey himself,” he told Tutto Juve.

“The player decided to leave and moved to a big team, which inevitably led him to another football.

“Aaron will be a very important player for Juventus; he has the same ambition.

“I congratulated him because he chose a team where he can win so much.

“Juve is a big name in European and world football. After so many years in England, this is a great challenge for him.”

Ramsey scored 64 times for Arsenal in 369 games en route to winning the FA Cup on three occasions - bagging the winner in their victory over Chelsea in 2017.

In Italy he has struggled to produce the levels he became known for at Arsenal, scoring just four times this term.

That has seen him linked with a return to the Premier League, although Manchester United are rumoured to be interested in rivalling Arsenal for his services.

Juventus acquired the Welshman for free so are aware of the profit that can be made should they move him on.
