Gor Mahia sign five-year deal with Agro Chemical

Record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia FC on Wednesday signed a five-year partnership deal with Agro Chemical.

The Kisumu based state-corporation partnered with the KPL defending champions in a mutually beneficial pact through their flagship spirit products Patriot Gin and Patriot Vodka.

Through its principal brand Patriot, K’Ogalo is set to benefit from a percentage of sales of the brand, where the company will use Gor Mahia’s vast fan base and branches to market their spirits while K’Ogalo earn Sh5 for every bottle sold according to information revealed by the club CEO Lordvic Aduda.

As an act of good faith, the company also advanced Sh2 million to K’Ogalo to help the club prepare for an upcoming trip to DR Congo where they are scheduled to play DC Motema Pembe in the Confederation Cup group stage play-off.

According to information seen by the Standard Sports, Agro Chemicals and Food Company Chief Executive Officer Ashok Agrawal hopes the partnership will place their product at the very top of spirit drinking chain an in turn help Gor from the revenues.

“Football is not new to us since we have in the past sponsored a team in the top league and second division. This time, however, we decided to go for a partnership we believe works for both the football team and the company. That is why we chose Gor Mahia,” he said.

Gor Mahia has struggled with player wages and in funding other activities since the exit of their erstwhile shirt sponsor SportPesa.

This follows the cancellation of the club’s sponsor for the last three years – SportPesa who ended its operations in the country.

Last month, Gor received Sh1 million from Keroche Breweries to shoulder their financial burden against CAF Champions League opponent USM Alger as the team continue to seek a permanent sponsorship deal.

The Green Army’s previous partnership with a baking company ended prematurely ‘without any notable benefit Gor to seek other avenues.
