The SEAgas Mashujaa Day Shooting competition which took place over the weekend at the Kirigiti shooting range in Kiambu county lived up to the Mashujaa spirit in pomp and prowess.
The event which was graced by the former Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo and the 2 time World Champion and 800 meters world record holder David Rudisha brought together over 60 participants drawn from the civilians and disciplined forces.
The ‘gods of the skies’ were fair enough to hold on to the anticipated downpour as the competitors flexed out in both individual and group disciplines.
David Kimaiyo voiced his unrelenting support for shooting sports in Kenya saying those anticipating to become licensed firearm holders should first attend training and become certified before they can be issued with a license.
On his part Rudisha encouraged all licensed firearm owners to join associations such as the National Gun Owners Association (NGAO-K) to better their skills.
“Some people who own firearms have never seen the entrance of a range since they received their license. I encourage them to make use of such facilities to become proficient in the use of the ‘item,” He said
NGAO-K Chairmain Anthony Wahome thanked all the sponsors’ i.e SEAgas Ltd, Subaru Kenya, and Skyward Express for making the event a success.
Wahome reiterated the efforts the association is undertaking in preparation for the 2020 IDPA African Championships set to be held at the Kirigiti outdoor shooting range.
The facility requires a minimum of 15 bays to be able to host the International match set to take place next year, therefore it’s race against time as construction gets underway.
The chairman appealed to the ministry of Sports, tourism, corporates and individual sponsors to help in the funding of the facility so that Kenya does not miss out on the special opportunity to host the International tourney.
The chairman of SEAgas Ltd Ibrahim Ndung’u who were the official sponsors of the event expressed his satisfaction in the manner in which the event was organized. “ I’m glad I was able to sponsor the shoot and I feel proud to be part of the growth of shooting sports in Kenya,” he said.
