Volleyball: Veteran Bitok reappointed as Malkia Strikers’ head coach

Former Kenyan international Paul Bitok has been reappointed as the national women’s volleyball team, Malkia Striker’s head coach, Kenya Volleyball Federation has announced.

Bitok, who recently returned in the country after an illustrious ten-year coaching career with Rwandan national teams, has replaced the Italian FIVB instructor Shailene Ramdoo whose contract has expired.

The former Kenya men’s team captain first task will be to prepare the team to defend its African Games title in Morocco on August 19-31 in Morocco.

As per KVF president Waithaka Kioni’s confirmation, Bitok will be deputized by Japheth Munala and Josp Barasa.

“We are confident Bitok will do a good job together with Munala and Barasa. We will give them all the necessary support they need. For now our focus is on defending our African Games title. We might review everything after the Morocco assignment,” Kioni told Standard Sports.

The changes comes barely three days after the record African champions jetted back into the country after a disastrous performance at the Intercontinental Olympics Qualifiers in Italy.

Kenya lost all their three matches by straight sets against Italy, Netherlands and Belgium.

Bitok was in charge of KCB (men and women’s teams) and Malkia Strikers before moving to Rwanda in 2009.
