Why midweek Premier League fixtures could be postponed

Heavy snow could cause the postponement of a Premier League fixture this week.

All 20 teams are in action over the course of Tuesday and Wednesday with the Met Office warning snow could batter certain parts of the country.

Games on Tuesday in particular could be in danger due to the wintry weather.

Manchester United , Huddersfield , Wolves and Newcastle are all at home with snow forecast to fall either before or during all four games.

Heavy snow is forecast in Huddersfield and Wolverhampton from 5pm while lighter flurries are forecast in Manchester and Newcastle.

Fulham and Arsenal also play at home on Tuesday, but downpours are more likely to fall as rain further down south.

Spurs, Bournemouth , Southampton and Liverpool will host fixtures on Wednesday evening, and snow is forecast early in the day on Merseyside.

Even with modern technology helping pitches cope with freezing conditions and potential snowfall, it is often the areas around the ground which lead to postponements.

Any games which are called off will come as a huge inconvenience to clubs, especially those competing in Europe, with a packed fixture list to battle through between now and the end of the season.
