Kenya will retain the FIBA Africa Zone Five women Club basketball championships for the third year running.
This is after both Kenyan representatives Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and Equity Bank maintained their good run in the championships, that comes to an end this evening at the National Indoor Court in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
KPA and Equity Bank won all their matches since the championships started last Sunday and are set to clash this afternoon to decide the winners.
The dockers are the defending champions and clash with the bankers in a match set to start at 4pm. The two teams met in last year’s final match where KPA emerged victorious. If KPA win this afternoon, they will keep the trophy for good by the virtue of winning it three times in a row.
The women group attracted six teams two from Kenya, APR of Rwanda, UCU of Uganda, Jeshi la Kujenga Taifa (JKT) and Wolkite from Ethiopia and was played on a round robin basis.
KPA were due to face Uganda’s UCU while Equity Bank faced Wolkite of Ethiopia yesterday ahead of their today’s crunch match.
Coach Ojukwu of KPA has conceded that Equity have a good side. [Ernest Ndunda]
