Fresh from winning Prinsloo Sevens title, Homeboyz are positioning to win a second title and have an early lead as Sepetuka Sevens, the second round of National Sevens Circuit, start at Eldoret Sports Club today.
Head Coach Paul Murunga said he needs to grab the top spot to avoid last year’s scenario whereby they got into tough battle as the circuit entered crucial stage.
“Last year, we narrowly lost the overall title by a mere two points by not taking our early matches and tournaments seriously. It has to be a different ballgame altogether this time,” Murunga told Standard Sports.
While they need to be at their best to counter defending champions Kabras Sugar, Murunga said they have the potential to reclaim the title despite missing a number of their key players.
“We’ll not play the same format that saw us win the Prinsloo title. We must change it to overcome our opponents whom we met last weekend or those who understudied us,” said Murunga.
Homeboyz, who are top seed in the Sepetuka Sevens, are in Pool A alongside Menengai Oilers, Mean Machine and Masinde Muliro University.
Mwamba are in Pool B with Kabras Sugar, Strathmore Leos and Kisumu RFC while Pool C has Resolution Impala Saracens, Nakuru RFC, Catholic Monks and Blak Blad.
Kenya Commercial Bank, Kenya Harlequins, Nondescripts and Prinsloo Division Two champions Resolution Kisii RFC are in Pool D. Homeboyz will miss Oscar Ayodi and Jeff Oluoch.
