Warriors are ready to pay up for a shot at more titles

Fresh off the sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals, Warriors GM Bob Myers said that NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant and coach Steve Kerr can expect little trouble as they seek new deals to stay with the team.

Myers said of Durant: "Sometimes you don't negotiate. I'd love to have him for 10 years. Kevin Durant, look what he did for us last year, he did us a great service. He's earned the right to sign whatever deal he wants.

"I just want him to sign a deal. But want him to be happy and want him to know that we want him as long as he wants to be here. He's earned that, to kind of lay out the terms. He can do whatever he wants. That shouldn't be a long negotiation. Our goal, to be honest, is to try to keep the whole thing together, so that's the pieces of the puzzle we've got to try to figure out."

And part of that puzzle is Kerr, who still has a year left on his original five-year contract.

"Whenever he wants to start," Myers said of Kerr. "We'll figure it out. I think the nice thing is we developed a camaraderie and we feel like he wants to be here. We want him here. We'll work it out. If it happens later, it won't be because it was put to the side. It was because organically it didn't happen. But it's going to happen.

"We can start whenever we want and however he feels comfortable beginning."

Over two seasons with Golden State, Durant has averaged 25.7 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.1 assists. The former No. 2 overall pick spent his first nine NBA seasons with the Seattle/Oklahoma City franchise. Durant, 29, is a four-time league scoring champion, a one-time regular-season MVP and a nine-time All-Star.

Kerr, 52, won five championships as a player before landing his first head-coaching job with the Warriors before the 2014-15 season. In his four years on the bench, Golden State has won three titles, reached the Finals each year and amassed a 265-63 regular-season record.
