Cash-strapped Nyamira Starlets made a comeback with a 7-0 win over Chriso Eldoret Women, in a second Division One women match played at their Sironga homeground over the weekend.

Evelyne Otieno, Lillian Kemunto and Cyprian Magabi scored a brace each, with Mildred Otieno scoring the seventh goal for the hosts.

Evelyne opened the scoring after 20 minutes, after receiving a pass from Alice Kerubo and tearing apart Chriso’s defence led by Nancy Njoki, Judith Auma and Lucy Mwihaki before finding the back of the net.

Evelyne piled more woes on the visitors at the 39 minute after curving in a volley from 20 yards to find the back of the net making the scores 2-0.

The match that was played in the afternoon, in the rain, saw Evelyne score her second goal in quick succession, before Kemunto made it 4-0. Magabi increased the goal tally in the 65th and 86th minutes to make it 6-0.

Mildred closed the victorious chapter in the 87th minute after her strong shot slipped through the fingers and legs of goalkeeper Millicent Chepkirui and rolled into the empty net.

The hopes for a consolation goal to the visitors were completely thwarted by Nyamira’s strong defence and goalkeeper Sheila Manyala had a field day between the sticks.

The Eldoret-based team’s coach George Baraza protested the result and lodged a complaint with FKF saying Nyamira had fielded ineligible players. [Stanley Ongwae]
