National boys’ basketball and hockey champions Laiser Hill and St Anthony’s Boys Kitale retained the regional titles as the 2018 Rift Valley Region Secondary Schools Term One Games ended in Kitale on Friday.

Trans Nzoia Mixed and Moi Girls Eldoret also secured a return to the nationals after winning the girls’ basketball and hockey finals.

Saniak Secondary School and St Joseph’s Kirandich also booked slots in next month’s Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) National Term One Games to be held in Embu, after being crowned boys' and girls' handball champions.

Laiser Hill who are certainly the country’s most successful boys basketball team with seven East Africa gongs and six national titles were on fire as they thrashed Kapsabet Boys 64-36 to maintain the status quo.

On their way to the finals, they beat rivals Kapenguria boys 45-28 while Kapsabet humbled homeboys St Joseph’s Boys Kitale 38-8.

Moi Girls Eldoret return to the nationals after missing last year’s competition. They beat Cheptil 34-21 in the girls’ final.

They had eliminated giants St Brigids Kiminini who last year locked them out of the nationals at the quarter-final stage.

In hockey, red hot St Anthony’s demolished Ololaiser 7-0 in the finals to book a slot at the nationals.
