Real Madrid star confirms contact from Manchester United

Manchester United are ready to break the bank and shake up the transfer market in the summer as they are eyeing to add quality to their squad tom propel them in winning silverwares next season.

Jose Mourinho is reportedly looking for a quality and experienced central defender to add to his squad and his former star at Real Madrid Raphael Varane has been one of the players linked with a move to Old Trafford.

The France international worked under Mourinho during their time together at Real Madrid and helped the club win the league in his debut season in Spain.

Asked by El Larguero if he had been contacted by Mourinho regarding a move to United, Varane replied: ‘No, not directly.

‘There were contacts, but not directly.’

The defender is rated highly and United will have to spend big if they will be interested in reuniting him with Mourinho at United in the summer.

Mourinho claimed that he will be focusing on strengthening other areas of his squad after signing Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in January.

‘That’s why I say that it’s bad for you [the media] because you like to have things to write and things to speculate, especially in the summer,’ the United manager said in February according to METRO.

‘But I don’t want attacking players so don’t speak about attacking players that are coming here because nobody is coming here.

‘We have Mata, Lukaku, Rashford, Martial, Alexis – I don’t want attacking players, so speculation in the summer you have to go to other areas.’ He added.
