Unrelenting Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) ladies held former Kenya Hockey Union women’s league champions Sliders to a 1-1 draw in a match played yesterday at City Park Stadium.

The victory saw the students who have been impressive this season maintain their unbeaten run and remain in contention for the title.

JKUAT coach Sammy Oungo said that the students were eying a good finish.

“My players have improved and the main reason is that we have set goals that we intend to achieve at the end of the season.

“We are eying a good finish and we are all working hard to make sure that we make it happen,” Oungo said.

He added that his players had come off age and he was impressed with their performance: “Last season they struggled very much but I am glad they have shown maturity this season and are confident to take on any opponent.”

JKUAT exuded confidence from the onset and were not cowed by the level of experience from the opponents.

They defended well and thwarted efforts of international Anita Agunda who charged forward in hunt of an early goal.

Sliders intensified their attacks but JKUAT were not ready to be intimidated not go down without a fight.

Both sides lost several chances to take the lead in the first two quarters but Georgie Randall put Sliders in the lead in the 34th minute.

The students fought on and their efforts paid off as Lesley Bonyo slotted in the 49th minute to ensure that they remained unbeaten.

Former men’s Premier League champions Kenya Police continued with their winning ways with a 2-1 win over debutantes Technical University of Kenya.

The victory saw Police maintain a 100 percent record.

Police who last won the league title in 2013 scored through Brian Saina and Samson Kibirir while Ian Wajire netted the students consolation.

The law enforcers are eying this season’s gong to end their three year trophy drought.

Police lost the title to Butali Sugar Warriors in 2014 who also won it in 2015 forcing them to second place on both occasions.
