Why Defoe waited for Rashford to arrive after Man United win over Sunderland

Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe waited 'patiently' by the Stadium of Light tunnel for Marcus Rashford to arrive after Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Sunderland on Sunday.

When he arrived, Defoe, 34, handed him his shirt as a sign of recognition for the youngster with Rashford also handing the Sunderland talisman his jersey.

Rashford scored United's third and final goal at the Stadium of Light, netting his eighth goal of the season and his first goal in nine games.

Rashford has enjoyed a whirlwind 12 months since making his debut for United in a 3-2 victory over Arsenal, earning an England call-up for his goalscoring ability and pacy style of play.
