Justin Fashanu

Born in 1961, Justin Fashanu was the son of a Nigerian barrister living in England. 

He played for Norwich, Nottingham Forest and Southampton along with 15 other clubs in England and Australia. In 1990, he publicly came out as gay in an interview with The Sun.

On the morning of May 3, 1998, Justin committed suicide, eight years after revealing his homosexuality in an interview.

Thomas Hitzlsperger

Thomas Hitzlsperger is a German former footballer who played as a midfielder.

He came out as gay in 2014 after he retired from professional football at the age of 31.

Robbie Rogers

In early 2013, the US soccer star Robbie Rogers said he was gay and retiring in the same news conference.
