Samburu, Kenya: Waso Muslim Primary School in Archers Post, Samburu East had lessons disrupted for the better part of the day after an active explosive was discovered a few metres from the  classrooms.

Teachers and pupils were shocked to discover the explosive device, believed to have been abandoned during the second world war.

Headteacher Jimale Koricha said the bomb was exposed as a result of soil erosion.

“Pupils spotted the device less than 400m from our classrooms, causing a lot of panic in the whole compound,” Koricha said, adding that the device may have been left in 1940s during the second world war.

Samburu County Police Commandant Patrick Wambane said bomb experts have been sent to deactivate the device, and urged teachers to watch after the pupils.

Residents claimed the explosives were abandoned after paramilitary trainings in the area several years ago.Wambane on Sunday urged the residents to keep off the scene until experts deactivate the devices.
