Abandoned infant rescued from Marmanet forest, Nyahururu

Nyahururu, Kenya: Traffic policemen in Nyahururu Thursday saved a newborn baby that had been dumped in Marmanet forest.

Nyandarua North OCPD Benjamin Onsongo who confirmed the incident said the officers were manning Nyahururu- Rumuruti road when they heard a baby cry in a thicket adjacent to the road.

“The baby who was a boy was naked and stashed in a nylon gunny bag. He was wet and his umbilical cord had not been cut,” said the OCPD.

He said the officers reported the incident at Nyahururu police station where their colleagues rushed and took the baby to Nyahururu District Hospital.

The OCPD thanked the officers for saving the life of the baby.

The baby’s mother had not been apprehended by Thursday 2pm.
