Nakuru, Kenya: Police in Rongai have launched a manhunt for a person suspected to be behind the movement of 18 Ethiopians from Kakuma Refugee Camp in Turkana.

The 18 were arrested on Saturday evening as they made their way to Nairobi from Kitale town aboard a minibus.

The police believe the person had their identification documents and used a different vehicle.

Rongai OCPD Joseph Mwamburi said the suspects were taken for treatment after most of them complained of stomach problems before they were locked-up at Rongai Police Station.

“Investigations are on to establish the real people behind the movement. Initial investigations indicate that somebody booked for them travel tickets in Kitale and possibly waiting for them in Nairobi”, said the OCPD.

Tip off

Among those arrested at a roadblock along Nakuru-Eldoret highway following a tip-off from the driver of the vehicle was a 60-year-old man.

According to Mwamburi, traffic police stopped the bus heading to Nairobi from Kitale and found the group who had no immigration documents.
