Azimio Parliamentary Group meeting has resolved to replace Sabina Chege as Deputy Minority Whip of the National Assembly.

Embakasi West Member of Parliament (MP) Mark Mwenje takes over Chege's position at the National Assembly.

"We recognize Mwenje as a committed, consistent, energetic and youthful fighter who has shown the will to stand up for the people and the party. We have no doubt that he will prove equal to the task," Azimio said in a statement on Tuesday, May 30.

The coalition had resolved to eject the former Murang'a Woman Representative from the party position after she shifted her allegiance to Kenya Kwanza.

Together with EALA MP Kanini Kega and others, they formed a faction of Jubilee that has since been in dispute with the Jeremiah Kioni-led faction, which remained loyal to the party.

"We reiterate that Azimio will do everything possible to protect affiliate parties from heinous attacks. We will do whatever it takes to protect multiparty democracy for which many Kenyans lost their lives."

According to Wandayi, Kenya Kwanza had shown the will to respect the ruling of the Political Parties Tribunal.

"With regard to interference in Jubilee, Kenya Kwanza has indicated a willingness to commit in writing to respect the ruling of the Political Parties Tribunal confirming the Jubilee Party leadership."

Wandayi also wants MPs elected on a Jubilee ticket but decamped to the Kenya Kwanza coalition to be subjected to a by-election.

"It is our resolution that other than merely committing not to interfere in the affairs of other parties, Kenya Kwanza must agree that all Jubilee MPs who have defected have to face by-elections, in line with the constitution."
