Early this week, the electoral commission chairman made an announcement that broke a long wait for the country.

Kenyans had risen early to go to the polls on August 9. It would take a week before Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati declared William Ruto winner of a tight race against his competitor, Azimio la Umoja candidate Raila Odinga.
