The Opposition last evening called off today's planned protests, but not before making a demand.

CORD demanded Government releases its members detained at Pangani Police Station over claims of hate speech.

CORD lawmakers James Orengo (Siaya senator) and Eseli Simiyu (Tongaren) asked the Government to stop the "persecution" of their MPs.

At a Press briefing, the MPs said while Jubilee had softened its stance on the talks, the arrests had polluted the atmosphere for talks.

"The Judiciary is being intimidated by the Executive to make decisions to frustrate, intimidate and harass Opposition members. Dialogue cannot happen in such an environment, when some of those being held are part of the dialogue process," said Mr Orengo.

Senator Johnstone Muthama (Machakos) and MP Junet Mohammed (Suna East) are some of those in the Opposition's talks with the Government on the fate of the electoral commission.
