Strathmore play Mean Machine in Floodlit final

By BS Mulavi

The battle lines are drawn as defending champions Strathmore take on University of Nairobi’s Mean Machine for the final of the Impala Floodlit tournament at the Impala grounds.

Mean Machine hold the most titles in the tournament having won the season opener eight times while Strathmore will be looking to retain the title they won for the first time last year. Both teams have battled intensely to reach to this stage with Mean Machine having outclassed Homeboys in the preliminary rounds, KCB in the quarterfinals and Kenya Harlequin in the semis.

On the other side, Strathmore embarrassed Nondies in the quarterfinals and edged out Nakuru in the semis. Even though Mean Machine seems to have passed through the most difficult route.

Though there will be no clear cut favorites to write home about. Mean Machine cannot be dismissed on the basis of their form in the floodlit and their rich history in the tournament, while Strathmore have dominated in possession and territorial play against all of their other opponents on the road to this final.

The final will be curtain raised by the third and fourth play off between Kenya Cup champions Kenya Harlequin and Nakuru RFC. Nakuru are still licking their wounds from the loss to Strathmore last weekend and will be eager to appease their fans with a third spot finish.
